A suspect was arrested Tuesday in the shooting death of a man in a Pine Hills parking lot, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Craig Lazar, 32, is facing a first degree felony murder charge and three counts of aggravated assault with a firearm in Brandon Bascom’s death on Dec. 17.
Bascom, 31, was allegedly angry with a person with whom he was running a suspected mail-fraud scheme, according to authorities. He was following her and ended up near Powers Drive and Silver Star Road, deputies said.
As the person, who had three others in the vehicle, pulled over at a gas station near the intersection, Bascom got out and stabbed one of the person’s tires, deputies said.
That’s when one of the passengers shot Bascom, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Another vehicle pulled up and someone else started shooting at him, deputies said.
Deputies thought the shooting may have been justified after learning the details of the incident.
It’s unclear if either shooter was Lazar or exactly how he is connected to the shooting.
A woman was also injured in the incident after Bascom’s vehicle hit her in a nearby parking lot as she was putting groceries into her vehicle.
