The Bloc Québécois deplored on Wednesday the Trudeau government's decision not to make available to the Government of Quebec the residual amounts of the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund and the Drinking Water and Wastewater Treatment Fund, estimated at $342 million.

"It is unacceptable ! The Liberal government is denying its own signature when it had undertaken in the context of negotiations to make these amounts available to Quebec. Ottawa literally stole $342 million from Quebec for its infrastructure projects,” Bloc Québécois transport spokesperson Xavier Barsalou-Duval said in a statement.

In 2017, the Trudeau government agreed to provide any residual amounts from the Drinking Water and Wastewater Treatment Fund to be used for projects under the quality of the environment sub-component, with a view to Bilateral Canada-Quebec agreement that oversees the Investing in Canada infrastructure program.

“This government seems to have no respect for its interlocutors. It forces Quebec to file disaster projects when it should have had another three years to do so. This gun to the head policy of Ottawa is absolutely odious,” added Bloc Québécois MP Xavier Barsalou Duval.
