The EU includes the diamond mining company Alrosa and its director on the list of sanctions against Russia

BRUSSELS, 3 Ene. (EUROPE PRESS) -

This Wednesday, the European Union included the diamond mining company PJSC Alrosa and its executive director, Pavel Alekseevich Marinychev, on its sanctions list in line with the twelfth package of restrictive measures adopted on December 18 on the occasion of the war in Russian aggression against Ukraine.

The Council has listed the company PJSC Alrosa, the largest diamond mining company in the world, owned by the Russian State and responsible for more than 90% of all Russian diamond production, as it considers that its actions undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, as the company provides income to the government of the Russian Federation.

These designations complement the import ban on Russian diamonds included as part of the 12th package of economic and individual sanctions adopted on December 18 in light of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.

The ban on Russian diamonds is part of a G7 effort to develop an internationally coordinated diamond ban that aims to deprive Russia of this important source of income.

In total, EU restrictive measures for actions that undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine now apply to almost 1,950 individuals and entities.

Designated persons are subject to an asset freeze and EU citizens and companies are prohibited from making funds available to them, as well as a travel ban, which prevents them from entering or transiting EU territories.
