The price of electricity continues its downward trend on Tuesday and falls by 22.6%, to 93.8 euros/MWh

MADRID, 13 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The average price of electricity for regulated rate customers linked to the wholesale market will fall by 22.6% on Wednesday compared to this Tuesday, to 93.8 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), thus continuing its downward trend. drop in the last few days.

In the auction, the average price of light in the wholesale market -the so-called 'pool'- stands for this Wednesday at 81.38 euros/MWh. Thus, the maximum price will be registered between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., with 192.69 euros/MWh, while a minimum of 1.8 euros/MWh will be registered between 03:00 and 04:00 a.m., according to provisional data from the Operator of the Iberian Energy Market (OMIE) collected by Europa Press.

These very low wholesale market prices for the early hours of the day, which will continue below 5 euros/MWh until 07:00, are due to the high presence of renewables in the 'mix', especially wind power, due to the Efraín storm, which has brought a strong storm of rain and wind to a large part of Spain.

To this 'pool' price is added the compensation to the gas companies that must be paid by consumers who are beneficiaries of the measure, consumers of the regulated tariff (PVPC) or those who, despite being on the free market, have an indexed rate, which will be for this Wednesday of 12.42 euros/MWh.

The 93.8 euros/MWh on average -including compensation- for this Wednesday, represent a new minimum so far in December and its lowest level since last November 23, in addition to placing the price of electricity in Spain more than four times below the rest of the main countries of the European Union.

Thus, the average price of electricity for tomorrow in France exceeds 451 euros/MWh, while in Germany it amounts to 443 euros/MWh and in Belgium 447 euros/MWh.

In the absence of the 'Iberian exception' mechanism to cap the price of gas for electricity generation, the price of electricity in Spain would be around 226.31 euros/MWh on average, which means 132.5 euros/MWh more. than with compensation for regulated rate customers, who will thus pay 55.8% less on average.

The 'Iberian mechanism', which came into force on June 15, limits the price of gas for electricity generation to an average of 48.8 euros per MWh for a period of twelve months, thus covering next winter, a period in which energy prices are more expensive.

Specifically, the 'Iberian exception' sets a path for natural gas for electricity generation from a price of 40 euros/MWh in the initial six months --until December 15--, and subsequently, a monthly increase of five euros/MWh until the end of the measure.
