Total Turf Experience plans expansion in Mantua

MANTUA TWP. -- Virtua Total Turf Experience is planning a large expansion at its township sports facility, local officials confirmed.

Total Turf, which opened in 2012, is a $6.8 million indoor and outdoor sports complex that includes athletic fields, a sports medicine facility, sporting goods store and a restaurant.

The new work includes expanded parking and construction of a 45,000-square-foot facility for soccer, basketball, volleyball, pickleball and dance, according to township officials.

"We're excited to see Total Turf Experience growing and expanding," said township Deputy Mayor Bob Zimmerman, liaison for economic development. "We've had a wonderful partnership with them over the past few years, and we look forward to more great things from TTE.

"They've brought a state of the art sports facility to our area, and we are proud to have their home right here in Mantua."

The new construction plans are actually part of original project approved by the township, explained Michelle Bruner, Mantua's economic development coordinator.

Bruner praised the owners' courage to expand, noting that ground-breaking on the original site was only 6 1/2 years ago.

"We are extremely proud of them and looking forward to working with them on the expansion project," she said.

The project is in the permitting phase, Bruner said.

The county development review committee signed off on it in January.

The facility sits on 22 acres and includes six professional-style indoor sports fields as well as outdoor athletics fields and five-acres of parking, according to their website.

Total Turf owners Jerry McGough, Andy Logar and Brad Yates partnered with Virtua to add an on-site sports medicine program in 2012.

Total Turf officials were not available to comment on the expansion Friday.
