Troopers seek driver after woman hit, killed crossing Pine Hills Road

Troopers were searching overnight for a driver who fled after running over and killing a woman on Pine Hills Road.

Jeanette Hernandez, 49, was trying to cross the road just north of Balboa Drive on about 8:35 p.m. Monday when she was hit, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Hernandez was first struck by a 2004 Buick Rainier heading south on Pine Hills Road. The driver, 53-year-old Ruben Rivera of Orlando, stopped at the scene.

She was then ran over by a second vehicle, which “immediately left the scene,” Trooper Steven Montiero said.

Hernandez, of Yonkers, New York, died at the scene.

Montiero said witnesses have given investigators varying descriptions of the second vehicle. Initially, troopers said it was possibly a dark grey sport utility vehicle, but Montiero said investigators were still sorting through all the information Tuesday morning and couldn’t verify that description.

Troopers were asking anyone with information to call Crimeline at 407-4236-8477.
