Two west suburban men remained in the DuPage County Jail on Tuesday after they were charged with drug-induced homicide in an Addison resident's death, prosecutors said.

Jackie Dunklin, 25, of Glen Ellyn, and Kevin Jaap, 32, of Addison, are facing the homicide count and drug charges related to the overdose death of James Maulding, who was found dead New Year's Day at a residence in Addison.

Addison police, responding to a 911 call about 9 a.m. on Jan. 1, found Maulding dead and a woman suffering from the apparent effects of a drug overdose at a residence on Lorraine Avenue. The woman was hospitalized for six weeks, according to prosecutors.

Authorities said Dunklin and Jaap supplied the combination of fentanyl, heroin and cocaine that led to the overdoses. Police arrested Dunklin Feb. 6, and Jaap was taken into custody Friday.

They appeared over the weekend in bond court, where a judge maintained the $1 million bail set on previous arrests warrants issued for the men. Both are charged with drug-induced homicide and one count of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance. The homicide charge is a class X felony, carrying a maximum prison sentence of 30 years.

"This is a very sad case of a young man who lost his life to heroin," State's Attorney Robert Berlin said. "The filing of charges against these two men sends the message to these poison peddlers that there is a price to pay for supplying these dangerous drugs, and that price could be up to 30 years of freedom."

Dunklin is due in court Feb. 28, and Jaap has a March 13 appearance scheduled.
