- Almost two decades later, Europe continues to drive global demand for RSPO-certified palm oil

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, April 8, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Almost two decades ago, the European market marked a milestone in the global palm oil trade when a shipment of barrels branded Sustainable Palm Oil Roundtable ( RSPO) arrived in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on November 11, 2008. A group of private organizations formed the Dutch Alliance for Sustainable Palm Oil (DASPO) in 2008 with the goal that all palm oil imported to the Dutch market will be RSPO certified by 2015. Not only has this goal been met, but that this national initiative has inspired similar initiatives in several European countries.

The RSPO is implemented through robust assurance, complaints and remediation systems, designed to protect natural resources, safeguard wildlife habitats and promote the livelihoods and development of smallholder farmers and rural communities around the world.
