RELEASE: Making Net5.5G a reality, inspiring new growth

DUBAI, UAE, Oct. 13, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- At UBBF 2023, Leon Wang, President of Huawei Data Communication Product Line, delivered a keynote speech titled "Making Net5.5G a Reality, Inspiring New Growth." He pointed out that in the 5.5G era, new ultra-wideband applications will emerge one after another, such as glasses-free 3D, whole-home intelligence, ultra-HD video conferencing and computing services. As a result, services such as home broadband, mobile broadband, business campus and business private line will need to be upgraded to 10Gbps. In turn, this will present new business opportunities for operators. By supporting ubiquitous 10Gbps connections, ultra-wideband elastic transport, and autonomous network self-optimization, Net5.5G will drive new business growth for operators.

With the upgrade of home and mobile broadband to 10 Gbps, the IP transport network will evolve into a 400 GE converged metropolitan network and backbone network. Operators can upgrade their IP transport networks to support high concurrency of massive 10 Gbps services and use new capabilities, such as network slicing, to ensure service experience and improve user satisfaction.

Digital transformation also drives the improvement of the quality of enterprise campus networks. By leveraging new capabilities like Wi-Fi 7 high-density access, video experience assurance, and cloud-based management, operators can add enterprise campus networks on top of private lines. In this way, they can provide comprehensive services, enabling high-quality 10Gbps wireless connections, video services, and O&M service experiences to be delivered to enterprise customers, thereby accelerating the growth of B2B services.

As AI penetrates various industries, new growth opportunities emerge, such as IT services and private lines of elastic IT services. To seize new opportunities emerging in the intelligent transformation of the industry, operators can provide efficient computing power through 800GE data center networks, provide agile connections to computing power through 10Gbps elastic private lines, and provide computing power services for more users through access to high-performance computing power.

Network Digital Map is also instrumental in helping operators make their network operations much more efficient. It enables visualization of the network from the physical layer to the application layer, helping operators perform experience-based network self-optimization.

Huawei has joined the WBBA Network Technology Working Group and is currently working with industry partners to conduct research on Net5.5G. It is also involved in technical standardization work relevant to Net5.5G being carried out by IEEE and IETF, covering key areas such as Wi-Fi 7, 800GE, SRv6 and Network Digital Map. Huawei plans to officially launch Net5.5G-oriented series products and solutions in 2024. Concluding his speech, Leon Wang called on the industry to jointly promote Net5.5G. It hopes that this will help push Net5.5G from simple conceptual research to application practice, that this will accelerate standard research, application innovation and the launch and practice of commercial solutions, and that these joint efforts will stimulate new growth for operators in the 5.5G era.
