The second edition of the National Environmental Health Awards, granted by the National Association of Environmental Health Companies (ANECPLA), has awarded the Doctor of Pharmacy, nutritionist and scientific communicator, 'Boticaria García', and Isabel Marín, former president of the Spanish Society of Environmental Health for its contribution to the sector

The Doctor of Pharmacy and scientific disseminator, Marian García, better known as 'Boticaria García', and Isabel Marín, former president of the Spanish Society of Environmental Health (SESA), have received the 2024 National Environmental Health Award from the National Association of Environmental Health Companies. Environmental Health (ANECPLA) for its contribution to the sector. Awards that celebrate their second edition this year after their birth in 2022 with the aim of providing well-deserved recognition to those professionals who have carried out excellent work in the field of Environmental Health. Thus, the National Award for Environmental Health, in its category of 'Communication and dissemination' was awarded to 'Boticaria García' for the great dissemination work carried out especially with respect to disinfection in the hardest months of the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain. "Almost four years ago in this country, the most absolute misinformation about disinfections reigned," García herself recalled. "The ozone fever, ultraviolet lamps... prevailed and with it, the dark side took advantage of some people who, with their best intentions, wanted to reopen their businesses, investing in everything they needed. Even in gadgets that not only They were of no use, but could become counterproductive. At that time I met several professionals from ANECPLA who provided all the truthful information on the subject, joining forces so that the disinfection was based on evidence." For its part, the Award National Environmental Health Career, in its Professional Career category, has been awarded to Isabel Marín, who was president of the Spanish Society of Environmental Health (SESA), between 2017 and 2022, having been part of various Governing Boards of this organization since 2010, for their immense contribution to the sector throughout their long professional career focused on Environmental Health. Both recognized in their respective speeches the importance of a One Health approach - which considers human health , animal health and environmental protection are closely interrelated and essential pieces of a common mechanism that is constantly conditioned - essential when it comes to effectively addressing the very diverse global challenges that exist today. "From the increase in disease-transmitting vector pests to the increased risk of zoonoses, it is urgent that they be addressed from a One Health approach," Jorge Galván, general director of ANECPLA, also agreed with the winners. The presentation of the II Awards National Environmental Health Conference took place at the Real Casino of Madrid with great success among attendees. The event was held within the framework of the celebration of EXPOCIDA IBERIA 2024, the largest Congress on Environmental Health organized, at the peninsular level, every two years by ANECPLA and which in this edition has exceeded all expectations both in terms of the number of exhibitors and attendees at the Congress and the Fair, which has positioned itself as one of the largest in the sector in all of Europe.
