The proposed innovative manufacturing facility is aligned to positively contribute to Europe's digital future.

BERLIN, March 21, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- HFCL Limited (HFCL), a leading technology company and provider of next-generation integrated communications products and solutions, has announced the establishment of a state-of-the-art fiber optic manufacturing facility generation in Poland at the FTTH 2024 Conference in Berlin, Europe's leading fiber optics summit. This strategic expansion underlines HFCL's commitment to address the growing demand for optical fiber cable (OFC) in European markets and accelerate the adoption of 5G and fiber to the home (FTTH) to align with the European vision of gigabit connectivity by 2028 .

European countries are in a major digitalization drive with national priorities such as the Gigabit Project in the United Kingdom, the Gigabit Strategy 2030 in Germany, Très Haut Débit in France and the Digital Agenda 2025 in Spain, among others. This has led to increased demand for fiber optic cables in European markets such as Germany, Belgium, France, Poland, etc. Additionally, factors such as the bandwidth limitations of traditional copper wire networks, growing demand for data, and regulatory imperatives driving fiber deployments are underscoring the critical need for fiber optic infrastructures for modern connectivity.

The European fiber optic cables market is expected to experience a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 4.5% over the next five years with an expected demand of 90 million kilometers of fiber p.a. by 2028. The FTTH council estimates that around 308 million homes in the EU region will have FTTH connectivity by 2028, accelerating the rollout by 3 to 5 years. This indicates a rapid expansion of FTTH networks in these areas, which will lead to increased demand for OFC.

Committed to meeting this growing demand and contributing to Europe's digital future, HFCL, a leading player in fiber optic cables, has planned an initial investment of up to €15.9 million (INR 144 crore) for its manufacturing facility. of fiber optic cables in Poland, which will go into operation with a capacity of 3.25 million kilometers of fiber scalable to a much higher capacity in the future. Currently, HFCL serves over 60 customers in Europe and manufactures a range of fiber optic cables including high fiber content microcables, microducts, micromodules, FTTH, ADSS, underground and overhead cables.

Given its ability to innovate around customers' unique challenges, HFCL's products meet global standards and are customized to meet each customer's requirements in the shortest possible time. With a conscious focus on environmental sustainability, HFCL manufactures fiber optic cables with highly efficient and environmentally friendly manufacturing processes that reduce its carbon footprint. HFCL has also celebrated notable achievements in the fiber optic cable space by receiving a Gold level honor at the Merit Awards as well as the Lightwave Innovation Award for its high fiber Ribbon Micro cable.

The strategic move of setting up the manufacturing facility will help serve HFCL's new and existing customers by reducing transit time by approximately six weeks, leading to increased order fulfillment capacity. The decision is also aligned to protect against possible regulatory changes, encourage localized manufacturing and improve competitiveness in the region. The establishment of the manufacturing plant in Poland will be facilitated by the incorporation of a new subsidiary in Poland under HFCL B.V., a wholly owned subsidiary of the company in the Netherlands.
