STATEMENT: Madinah shines at the Global Smart Cities Forum

(Information sent by the signatory company)

The city has once again demonstrated its total commitment to the SDGs at the Global Smart City Forum, in Riyadh

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Feb. 22, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- The Medina Urban Observatory of the Medina Region Development Authority launched the Medina Region Sustainable Development Statement during the Global Smart Cities Forum in Riyadh . An event that brought together experts and technology companies from around the world to reflect on the future of cities. Only Medina participated with its own pavilion in the forum, due to its unique character. And once again, the city shone with its own light.

The State of Sustainable Development of the Medina Region covers seven main sectors: economy, urban development and housing, transportation, connectivity and mobility, infrastructure, environmental management and quality of life, urban planning and land use, social aspects of sustainable development, and visitors to the city.

The report is aligned with Medina's people-centered smart city strategy, where sustainability is one of the key outcomes. With the presentation of the report, Medina showed his impeccable data-driven approach towards the United Nations 2030 Agenda and the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Furthermore, the report on the status of sustainable development of the Madinah region supports setting the compass in the right direction in the implementation of smart city use cases. Medina is a pioneer in the localization of the SDGs, at the national and international level.

Agreements to move forward.

But the presentation of the report is not the only evidence of Medina's commitment to its citizens that took place during the Forum. During the event, Engineer Abdulrahman Ibrahim, Director of Data and Innovation at the Medina Region Development Authority, signed no less than three MoUs, with the sole objective of taking Medina in the right direction. The first of them, with the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), aims to share experiences in data, smart cities and artificial intelligence strategies, provide mutual technical support in relevant fields and co-organize events and workshops. The second, signed with the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, also seeks to share data and experiences on smart cities, and proposes to carry out research and studies in relevant fields on the topic. The third agreement, signed with Pilgrims Experience Program (PEP), aims to collaborate in the exchange of data and smart city applications.

Medina has 1.5 million inhabitants, making it the fourth most populous city in Saudi Arabia. Every year it receives 9 million visitors, most of them pilgrims.

North Start's vision for the city states: "We will create the most peaceful, generous and dynamic smart city in the world." If the forecasts come true, soon 30 million people a year will visit the city, in search of that space of progress, designed for reflection and meditation.
