Madrid, February 13, 2024.- The Sala Ágora de Turespaña was the stage for this event presided over by the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, and moderated by the Secretary of State, Rosana Morillo.

Xavier Martínez, coordinator of the Sea Starlight project, a project financed with Next Generation funds, within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, began his presentation with an emotional video and then highlighted the relationship that has always existed between navigation and astronomy, highlighting that 85% of the world's population lives under light-polluted skies, which among other factors leads to a deterioration of the historical, cultural, environmental and aesthetic legacy.

Sailors, he went on to say, are fortunate that when they move away from the coast they enjoy dark skies, free of light pollution, and visible simply to the "naked eye."

About 2.4 million nautical tourists visit Spain, and this project must be able to rejuvenate the current offer, adding the landscape and the story of the celestial vault, this resource being free, highlighted the Secretary of State Rosana Morillo.

The project, which is committed to technological innovation, will offer a shocking virtual reality experience that will transport you back to the 20th century. XVI to show how sailors oriented themselves in ancient times by looking at the sky.

Sea Starlight is firmly committed to sustainable tourism that is respectful of the seas and skies, and to this end, among other actions, it has designed two programs: "Social Sea Starlight", scheduling different talks on navigation and astronomy in educational centers, as well as activities with vulnerable groups in which virtual reality will be a very valuable instrument, and the "Woman Sea Starlight" program, in which we want to give a voice to outstanding women in the field of navigation and astronomy by organizing different days.

All Sea Starlight experiences will be available through the ten companies that make up the project in group mode, together representing a good part of the 8,000 kilometers that mark the Spanish coasts around a common story in which they value the culture of the sky and the art of sailing:

Cape Mayor - Cantabria

Nautical Academy Lanzarote - Canary Islands

San Yago Charter - Galicia

Azimut Nautical School - Asturias

Pakea Sailing Experiences - Euskadi

Virazón Charter - Region of Murcia

Under Full Sail - Andalusia

Ocean Nautical Academy - Valencian Community

The Sea Starlight project plans to see the light, of course that of the stars, next spring, but you can now visit its page to request information.
