German investigators are against operators of an illegal download platform on Internet. In a raid in 13 federal states, y searched apartments of 42 suspects and switched off servers, as General Prosecutor's office in Frankfurt am Main shared. The searches already took place on Wednesday and Thursday, as main accused is a 49-year-old from Hessian Wetteraukreis. As remaining 23 to 72 years old suspects were involved in illegal machinations, it was initially unclear. The owners of copyrights incurred a damage of at least 2.9 million euros due to platform operation.

In parallel with searches of house, prosecution and police had to shut down previously localized servers. A stand in Nerlands, more in France. They were identified with help of Hessian State criminal office and also shut down.

The investigators seized numerous computers, data carriers and network technology during ir nationwide raid. The investigations are conducted on grounds of professional illicit exploitation of copyright protected works.

Usenet is a worldwide online network and an independent service on Internet that has been created long before World Wide Web. Via newsgroups that work like black boards, files can also be exchanged. This function is abused by criminals for distribution of pirated copies.
