Is 'The Batman' movie doomed?

Ben Affleck just stepped down as director of the upcoming "The Batman" solo movie. While some fans think he's a great director who could have pulled it off, others argue Affleck doesn't need the extra stress. Affleck is also starring, producing, and co-writing the film with Geoff Johns. Yet again -- there's no director, and DCEU's live-action films have only garnered moderate success. Do you think "The Batman" is set up to fail?

PERSPECTIVES

First, some fans didn't want Affleck to be Batman. Sentiment changed a bit after "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" was released; some fanatics supported Affleck as Batman (but others still thought he sucked).

Now, some critics and even supporters are happy Affleck is stepping down as director of "The Batman," but for entirely different reasons. Others are skeptical that without Affleck's direction the film is doomed to fail. Some critics simply think the film will fail regardless of Affleck's direction, because the DCEU can't seem to get it together. What do you think?

On one hand, Affleck might feel the pressure of making another great Batman movie. Filmmaker Christopher Nolan and award-winning actor Christian Bale created the highly praised "Dark Knight" trilogy. Affleck might crack under that pressure, and some look at him stepping down as director of "The Batman" as an early omen that the film is doomed.

DCEU might have found some success at the box office with "BvS" and "Suicide Squad," but until the DCEU makes an acclaimed live-action film, interest might continue to fade.

On the other hand, many jumped on the bandwagon and praised Affleck for his portrayal of Batman in "BvS." He was great even if the film was not. "BvS" wasn't spectacular, but Affleck is one of the reasons why fans argue the film isn't that bad. Hence, DCEU fans are still hopeful for the next great "Batman" movie.

Affleck felt it was best that he'd step down for the film's sake. So there's hope yet.

Other fans aren't that understanding. They thought Affleck would have been the perfect director. He might have missed with "Live by Night," but he's also made Academy-Award winning movies like "Argo." So things are looking kind of gloomy for the film, depending on who you ask.

Ben Affleck not directing Batman isn't a Noghtmare it's real and it's the worst thing that's happened to DC yet!https://t.co/gIB8gy92OZ

Yet, some fans respect Affleck's decision, and think it's better for him to focus on a more in-depth portrayal of Batman. There's hope that the right director will come forward. No need to worry!

Sounds like @BenAffleck made the right choice for himself & the film. Thanks for respectng the character & fans enough to make this decision pic.twitter.com/UbqiDORq7G

Ben Affleck is stepping down because he felt he cannot handle so much stress & work. To give his best as an actor, he needs rest & focus.
