El Maracumbe, a Tex-Mex favorite since 1978, has closed.

The equipment is being auctioned this week.

A 2012 review largely praised the restaurant for "its consistent and varied classic Tex-Mex dishes," and its "excellent flour tortillas, efficient service and solidly executed dishes, all done consistently."

According to a 2014 story, restaurant owner  H.D. Hosseini, was an Iranian delegate to the United Nations with a doctorate in political science from Vanderbilt University. But the revolution in his home country ended his diplomatic career. He was granted political asylum from the United States government but had to leave New York and Washington for his own safety.

He came to San Antonio and opened his restaurant in 1978 and moved to its last location in 1982.
