Hans Jochimsen, of Fort Lee, was charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in serious bodily injury, Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said in a press release.

Fort Lee Police responded to Lemoine Avenue just after 6 a.m. Sunday on a report that a man was struck while crossing the street, Grewal said.

Officers said that Jochimsen was driving his 1992 Toyota Camry when he struck 57-year-old Byron Murphy of New York and then left the scene of the accident, Grewal said.

Murphy remains in critical but stable condition at Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was sent after the crash, Grewal said.

Jochimsen is scheduled to appear in court on March 3.
