Which donut chain is looking to expand in Sparta?

SPARTA -- Another doughnut chain is seeking to grow its presence in New Jersey.

A proposed Dunkin' Donuts franchise on Route 15 will be reviewed Wednesday night by the township's Zoning Board of Adjustment.

In Jersey City on Tuesday, much smaller rival Krispy Kreme opened a factory store, the first of six new locations it is planning in Hudson and Bergen counties.

Dunkin' Donuts describes itself as the world's largest baked goods and coffee chain, with an estimated 3 million daily customers worldwide.

In October, a Dunkin' Donuts franchisee announced plans to transform a newspaper building into a 69,625-square-foot baking facility for dozens of stores in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The proposed store by RM Sparta Donuts Inc. would be at least the second Dunkin' Donuts franchise in Sparta, which does not have any Krispy Kreme locations.

Wednesday's meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the municipal building.
