Condom makeup: creepy or ingenious?

Ladies, throw away your makeup brushes and fancy silicon sponges. Beauty vloggers say that if you want your face to look as burnished and contoured as a Kardashian’s, you’d better use a condom.

This is not a joke. According to Cosmo, applying makeup with a rubber sheath not only allows the foundation to seamlessly glide over the skin, but also prevents it from being absorbed by a sponge.

First, wash the condom to get rid of any lubricant it may have on it. Then, stick a cheap, porous “beauty blender” inside the contraceptive and start blending your makeup. That’s it.

Though Cosmo cites YouTube star Laila Tahr as the mastermind behind this unorthodox cosmetic hack, other makeup artists have come up with even more creative ways to use condoms for contouring. Itzayana Lizbeth (alias: Beauty Vixxen) skipped the beauty blender altogether and filled a rubber with lotion. She called it “by far the best technique I’ve used.” (A similar experiment with a water balloon yielded less ideal results.)

But lifestyle Web site Refinery29 reports that the trend has its fair share of haters. “Every day the Instagram explore page reminds me that god is dead and nothing means anything,” tweeted one critic in response to Tahri’s Instagram condom-contouring tutorial.

“I just saw a girl PUT A CONDOM OVER A BEAUTY BLENDER AND USED IT? TO BLEND!!??” wrote another. “I am so done with the makeup community y’all are on your own.”
