AKRON, Ohio -- Rescuers had to free one person and five were taken to the hospital after single-car crash early Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred at 2:15 a.m. at the intersection of Hartford Avenue and Lawton Street, which is just east of Interstate 77, according to the Akron Fire Department.

The department released few details early Tuesday, with the crash still under investigation. WEWS Channel 5 reports the crash occurred after a short police chase.

The conditions of the five people in the car were not available.
