Coming Monday: Photo galleries of cats competing in Cutest Cat contest will begin

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cats are about to take over cleveland.com's website. Photo galleries of the kitties nominated for Greater Cleveland's Cutest Cat contest will begin publishing on Monday, Feb. 6 at cleveland.com/best.

We planned to start the photo galleries the week of Jan. 30 but needed a little more time to get all the pictures and captions complete, as more than 3,000 cats have been entered in the contest.

We can't wait to start sharing with you adorable pictures of 3,000-some cats we've received and appreciate your patience as we get the kitties' pictures ready for their online debuts.

Cleveland.com will publish all of the pictures over the next few weeks, organized in alphabetical order by the cats' first names. One gallery will be published each day and each gallery will contain approximately 100 cats.

Also starting Monday: a five-person selection committee from cleveland.com will be reviewing all of the photos to decide the 100 finalists.

From there, readers will determine the Top 10 -- as well as the order of the Top 10 finish -- through voting in online polls.

The dates of the contest, including when the Top 100 will be determined as well as when voting will start, will be announced on Monday as well.

Please note the nomination period ended Jan. 24, so we will no longer be accepting new nominations.

Note to dog lovers: cleveland.com will once again conduct a contest to find the Cutest Dog in Greater Cleveland. It will be conducted during the summertime. More details will be announced at cleveland.com/best in the coming months.
