WEST WINDSOR -- A man who police say intentionally struck a pedestrian in a Walmart parking lot early Thursday was arrested in Trenton later in the day.

West Windsor police apprehended the suspect at about 2 p.m. in Trenton with assistance of the U.S. Marshals' Regional Fugitive Task Force. Police did not immediately identify the suspect, citing an ongoing investigation.

He's charged with aggravated assault for the 7 a.m. incident Thursday in the Walmart lot in the Nassau Park shopping center off Route 1, township police Lt. Matt Kemp said.

Kemp said the suspect drove right at the victim in a tan-colored car, possibly a Cadillac, and sped away from the lot. Kemp would not elaborate on a possible motive for the assault.

The victim, a 35-year-old Hamilton resident, was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton with non life-threatening injuries.

When the task force located the man in Trenton, he barricaded himself in his apartment, then tried to break through the roof after hiding in the attic. For that, task force officers charged him with resisting arrest.
