Cops arrest teenager suspected of trying to rape woman in lobby

Police arrested a 17-year-old boy who allegedly tried to rape a woman as she was entering her building at the Stuyvesant Town apartment complex in Manhattan Sunday, authorities said.

The 22-year-old victim was entering her building on East 20th Street when the suspect followed her into the lobby and attacked around 5 a.m.

The teen, whom she did not know, allegedly knocked her to the ground and forcibly removed her clothes as he tried to rape her in the lobby of the building, police said.

The suspect fled the building when another resident walked in and saw what was happening, according to cops.

The teen was later caught when he walked into Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital with scratches on his chest and missing a few articles of clothing.

Suspicious hospital staffers then called cops to report the injured minor, officials said

Police were reviewing the building’s surveillance cameras, which captured the attack. They also found the man’s hat just outside the building, which he apparently dropped as he was running away from the scene.

The suspect was taken to the Manhattan Special Victims Unit for questioning. He has not been charged and his identity has not been released.

The victim was not seriously injured, officials said.
