CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cuyahoga County has hired five "talent advisors," at a salary of $60,000 each to help businesses identify employees who can be trained and promoted.

The hires are part of the county's new SkillUp program, which the county set aside $4.5 million for this year. The goal is to train more than 900 people, the county said.

Peter Bednar, William Bolton Jr., Douglas Cantley, F. Folsom Patterson and Kathi Warn-Resnick will also receive benefits.

They were hired as temporary employers from Jan. 23 through May 23, with the plan for the positions to become permanent, said county spokeswoman Mary Louise Madigan. The advisors will report to David Feinerman, who was hired in May 2016 to fill the newly-created position of Head of Workforce Innovation.

The advisors will work with employers to identify their needs and try to create individual training plans, Madigan said. The positions were advertised.

"They will screen potential candidates for skills then begin a coaching process," she said. "There is also going to be a training plan and training that is really designed for on-the-job experience."

The program and advisors build on the county's plan to help companies hire skilled employees and to help employees in low-skill jobs find better jobs.

"They have impressive backgrounds in job development or human resources," Madigan said. "They know the employer world as well as what employees need to do to improve and find a career path."
