Teen killed in Cleveland playground shooting

CLEVELAND, Ohio - A playground shooting in Cleveland left a teenager dead Sunday evening, police said.

The shooting happened Sunday evening in the playground of the Andrew J. Rickoff Elementary School, on East 147th Street, south of Kinsman Road in the city's Mount Pleasant neighborhood, Cleveland police spokesman Det. Reginald Lanton said in an email.

The victim, a 17-year-old boy, was shot in the abdomen, Lanton said. He was taken to University Hospitals by paramedics, where he died.

He will be identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office once his family is notified.

No suspects have been publicly identified, and no further details have been released. This post will be updated if additional information becomes available Sunday night.

The boy's death marks Cleveland's 15th homicide of 2017.
