Iosco appoints Buenaventura (CNMV) as the new president of its sustainable finance committee

MADRID, 5 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), Rodrigo Buenaventura, has been appointed as the new president of the sustainable finance committee of the International Organization of Securities Market Commissions (Iosco, for its acronym in English), as reported the CNMV itself through a statement.

In this new position, the president of the CNMV will lead Iosco's work to assess whether the standards established by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) of the Foundation for International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS, for its acronym in English) can be used as a global standard procedure for climate information.

In addition, he will lead Iosco's work in finalizing its work on carbon emissions markets, the objective of which is to establish recommendations for a robust functioning of such markets. Another of the tasks of this group will be to promote independent reviews of corporate information on sustainability.

"Today's appointment reflects the importance that the CNMV gives to the development of sustainable finance and its leading role in international regulation in this area," the supervisor himself said in the statement.

Since 2020, Buenaventura was already vice president of the committee that he will lead from now on and vice president Montserrat Martínez Parera heads the Sustainability Committee of the European Securities and Markets Authority, ESMA.
