Trade unions do not like to hear: the German workers made 2016 many overtime, most even unpaid. This could have created new jobs.

Labour market: Germans made 1.7 billion overtime

The workers in Germany have done nearly one billion unpaid overtime in 2016 toger. This is reported by Bild newspaper, citing federal government's response to a parliamentary question from left faction. The exact number of overtime was refore 947 million. According to report, total number of paid and unpaid overtime was approximately 1.7 billion.

Translated into jobs, amount of unpaid work in newspaper is estimated to be about one million additional full-time jobs. More than two-thirds of overtime was done by men (69.2 percent). Women were involved with 30.8 percent.

In total, workforce in Germany did 59.3 billion hours of work last year. This is written by Left faction on its website and is also based on a response from federal government to a parliamentary question. Compared to previous year, Arbeitszeitvoulmen increased by 2.9 percent.

Males 2016, 36 billion, 60 percent of all hours worked. They are also more common in full-time positions. In women, working hours worked increased by two percentage points to 39.2 percent between 2000 and 2016. In recent years, figures have risen sharply in part-time work: The number rose from 6.5 billion hours in year 2000 to almost 11 billion last year.
