In Wind Gap, Pen Argyl and Plainfield Township there is an epidemic of street light outages. Numerous times I have conversed with elected officials about this problem and it has gone nowhere. The importance of these lights working properly adds to both the security and safety of all impacted by the lack of working street lamps.

Failure to report and repair streetlight outages in the Slate Belt is leaving some neighborhoods in the dark.Express-Times file photo

On a recent trip I counted 12 Met-Ed street lamps out and two at the Waste Management landfill Vdcasino site. So the important questions are, why have they been let go so long, why has no one reported them to Met-Ed, and who is actually responsible for reporting them being out? I know the average homeowner knows nothing about reporting them. The road crews typically work daylight hours and wouldn't notice outages.

It's about time someone starts doing something. One thing I find interesting is that on South Main Street in Pen Argyl near the park there are two lights out in a row. They obviously are there for safety of park-goers and yet they have been out for quite a while.
