‘X-Men’ Star Hugh Jackman Receives Treatment For Skin Cancer For The Fifth Time

“X-Men” star Hugh Jackman recently confirmed that he received treatment for skin cancer for the fifth time.

On his Instagram account, the actor posted a photo of himself post-surgery. He said that another basal cell carcinoma was detected after he had his checkup. Jackman’s recent operating is his fifth within a span of almost four years. The actor concluded his short but meaningful post by urging his followers to always use sunscreen.

In 2013, Jackman shared that it was his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, who encouraged him to have the mark on his nose checked. Doctors later on told him that the mark is cancerous. Basal cell carcinoma is a form of skin cancer that is also most common of its kind. Even though it is usually considered fatal, it can cause disfigurement or destruction to the skin and its surrounding areas. As such, it can still be considered malignant, according to US Weekly.

Jackman does not normally talk about his cancer diagnosis during interviews, but he manages to update his fans via his social media account since his first diagnosis sometime in November 2013.  Two years later, he spoke with People and said that he was shocked when he heard his doctor utter the word “cancer.” “It’s always a bit of a shock just hearing the word cancer. Being an Australian, it’s a very common thing. I never wore sunscreen growing up so I was a prime candidate for it,” he said.

Other than his nose, Jackman also had some skin cancer cells removed from his shoulders. “I go every three months for checkups. It’s the new normal for me. My doctor says I’ll likely have more, and it that’s your cross to bear in life, you should be so lucky,” he said.
