The shorttrackeuse Dutch Lara van Ruijven died Friday, announced the netherlands federation of skating (CITUB).

Van Ruijven, 27-year-old world champion in the 500-meters, was admitted to the hospital in Perpignan, France, on the 25th of June because of health problems. An autoimmune disease has been diagnosed and has resulted in complications, including internal bleeding, particularly in the brain. Since 29 June, she was in the intensive care unit, where she was kept in an induced coma.
