That’s according to four-time golf major champion Ernie Els, who accepted a last-minute invitation to tee off with the president and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter, Fla., on Saturday.

Els said Trump looks the part, much more so than his world leader counterpart.

“President Trump is a golfer,” Els told the Wall Street Journal. “He swings the golf club properly, hits iron shots properly. He’s a proper golfer. The Japanese PM plays a different kind of game. He’s more of a little clipper. He flicks the ball a little bit.”

As reporters were barred from viewing the round, Els became one of the only eyewitnesses to Trump’s diplomatic session.

Els, the US Open champ in 1994 and 1997, said he’s known Trump for 20 years. When the native South African withdrew from the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am with a neck injury, he got a call from David Trout, the director of Trump’s course, to round out their foursome.

Els, a member of Trump National, described the invite as “surreal” and said he drew criticism from some friends for playing alongside the controversial commander-in-chief. Trump played with a flashy golden driver while wearing his patented “Make America Great Again” trucker cap.

Els, 47, played in a three-on-one format against Trump, Abe and Trout, with the round apparently ending in a tie. Following the round, Trump tweeted he had a “great time” playing with Abe and Els.
