A 12-year-old boy who suffered serious head injuries after being assaulted by a classmate at his South Elgin middle school has returned home from the hospital.

"You heard it here first ... Henry is Home!" the boy's mother, Karen Sembdner, tweeted Tuesday night, along with a photo showing her son surrounded by his family on a couch.

Henry was assaulted around noon Friday in a second floor hallway at Kenyon Woods Middle School. The boy's family says Henry bumped into another student and was slammed to the ground.

The boy was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where doctors placed him in a medically induced coma while they treated him for a head injury and facial fractures, officials said.

The Kane County state’s attorney’s office said it is investigating, but there's been no word on any charges. The school district also says it is conducting its own disciplinary investigation.

As Henry recovered in the hospital, Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo invited him to Wrigley Field to watch batting practice and a game.  Fellow students have worn Cubs gear since the attack in support of Henry, who is an avid fan of the team.

Rizzo tweeted a message Tuesday night after he was released from the hospital.  "Glad you are home Buddy. Keep staying #HenryStrong. See you at Wrigley this summer."
