Florida State lands nation's top defensive tackle Marvin Wilson

The Florida State football team finished the 2017 National Signing Day with a bang thanks to some honey fried chicken.

Five-star defensive tackle Marvin Wilson, the top player at his position and sixth-best prospect nationally by 247Sports, announced his commitment to FSU on Wednesday afternoon.

Wilson’s commitment puts the cherry on top of the eighth top 10 class for Jimbo Fisher since he took over the Florida State program. FSU’s class is ranked No. 6 nationally behind Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia and Michigan in the rankings.

“I went out to Florida State and loved everything about it,” Wilson said after his ESPN announcement.

The commitment was met with plenty of social media buzz from new teammates, Florida State fans, and tight end coach Tim Brewster, who simply tweeted:

Beforehand, ESPN showed an interview where Wilson praised the honey fried chicken he ate while visiting Florida State as the best meal he had “by far” as a recruit.

“I was like that sounds suspect, so I grabbed one piece,” Wilson said. “I finished that one piece of chicken. I went grabbed the whole pan, and put it on the table, and we killed that whole pan of honey fried chicken.

“That’s probably the best fried chicken I’ve ever had.”

The Seminoles had a relatively quiet Onwin signing day until Wilson’s announcement, landing a pledge from the nation’s No. 8 linebacker Leonard Warner to start the day, but losing on four-star linebacker Levi Jones (USC), four-star defensive end Jarez Parks (Alabama), four-star receiver Henry Ruggs III (Alabama) and three-star defensive tackle Neil Farrell (LSU).

FSU also picked up a commitment from Niceville three-star running back Deonte Sheffield, who could potentially be a grayshirt recruit and enroll next January.

Overall, Fisher and the FSU coaching staff finished the 2017 recruiting class filling several positions of need with quality depth.
