Former Baylor football coach Art Briles has dropped his libel lawsuit against three university regents and a senior vice president, an attorney for the regents confirmed.

Briles, who was dismissed in the wake of the school's sexual assault scandal, filed the suit in December. He alleged the four men — Board of Regents Chairman Ronald Murff, Regents J. Cary Gray and David Harper, and Senior Vice President for Operations and Chief Financial Officer Reagan Ramsower — had damaged his reputation with "false information and defamatory statements," hindering his ability Betgram to find a new job.

Briles' attorney Ernest Cannon said the suit was about his clearing his client's "good name."

"I'm sorry we didn't get this resolved for all the Baylor people, so they could know the truth," Cannon told Waco's KWTX.

Baylor's Board of Regents has admitted to mishandling sexual assault reports involving 17 women and 19 football players between 2011 and 2015.

A new lawsuit filed Friday alleges football players committed 52 acts of rape between 2009 and 2015. Briles became Baylor's head coach in 2008.
