JaQuori McLaughlin sets Oregon State basketball freshman 3-point record: Rundown

Amid a losing streak that reached 13 games Sunday, Oregon State guard JaQuori McLaughlin set a new school freshman record for three-pointers in a season.

McLaughlin went 1 of 4 from long range in a 78-60 loss at No. 10 UCLA, bringing his total of three-point makes to 49 and breaking the one-year-old mark backcourt mate Stephen Thompson Jr. set last season (48).

McLaughlin, who is averaging 11.0 points and 3.2 assists, has fired up a team-high 125 three-pointers this season. He is shooting 39.6 percent from the field and 39.2 percent from three-point range.

Redshirt freshman guard Kendal Manuel is also nearing the old record with five regular season games to play. He has made 43 of 112 threes this season (38.4 percent). Thompson, who starts alongside McLaughlin and Manuel, is 42 of 126 from deep on the season (33.3 percent).

The numbers are reflective of the heavy minutes OSU is playing its young backcourt, as well as the frequency with which the Beavers have used the three-point line. Since the college basketball analytics site KenPom began tracking stats during the 2001-02 season, this season marks the Beavers' third-highest single season rate of three-point attempts.

The first two seasons on the list was the 2001-02 season (Ritchie McKay's final year) and the 2008-09 season (Craig Robinson's first year).

During conference play, the Beavers rank ninth in the Pac-12 in three-point shooting percentage (35.5 percent).
