The Oregon Ducks new coaching staff has been aggressive on the recruiting trail, offering scholarships to more than 100 2018 football prospects and a handful of 2019 talents.

Oregon extended a major scholarship offer Monday night to a player with a name many Duck fans will immediately recognize, 2019 Sheldon wide receiver/tight end Patrick Herbert, the younger brother of Justin Herbert:

While Oregon fans may be far more familiar with Justin than his younger brother at this point, EForce Football coach and Battle Prep West editor Jordan Johnson has high hopes for the emerging star athlete.

"Patrick brings versatility to the table, being equally dangerous at wide receiver and tight end," he said. "In my initial rankings for 2019, I had Patrick ranked as the top prospect in the state."

The 6-foot-5, 225-pound athlete has also garnered rave reviews from Sheldon coach Lane Johnson.

"He's a big target going across the middle, and he's got great hands, maybe the best hands of anybody on our team," Johnson told The Oregonian. "So when you combined that with 6-5-ish, 225-ish, that's a pretty good target to throw."

Although Herbert's sophomore campaign was shortened by a broken foot, he has emerged as a breakout player in 7-on-7 action, catching a pair of touchdown passes for EForce Football in a Redondo Beach, California 7-on-7 tournament.

Wille Taggart has indicated he plans to keep the state's top high school talents at home in college, and an early offer to Herbert is further proof of that aim.
