Saucon Valley 51, Wilson 18 - Rapid Recap

Saucon Valley wrestling team rolled to a second straight District 11 Class 2A title on Saturday night, posting a 51-18 victory over Wilson in the championship match at Freedom High School.

Turning point: Jared Corriere of Wilson opened up the match with a 1-0 decision over Saucon Valley's Paul Miller at 126 pounds. It was the 100th career victory for the Warriors senior. But the celebration soon stopped for Wilson.

Sophomore Justin Kyra (0:35 at 132 pounds) and freshman Thomas Spirk (2:42 at 138) followed the Corriere victory with back-to-back pins to give the Panthers a 12-3 lead. The Panthers rolled from there.

Top performers: Kyra, Spirk and seniors Abe Lugo (3:41 at 182), Stephen Good (0:34 at 195) and Trey Polak (1:48 at 285) all had pins for the Panthers. Jason Jones (152) and Josh Jones (120) each had a major decision for Saucon Valley.

Corriere had his 100th win on a big stage. Elijah Bundro (1:59 at 106) and Jonathan Consorti (5:55 at 113) had pins for the Warriors.

What it means: It was the second straight district title for the Panthers, who improved to 23-0 on the season. Saucon Valley will wrestle the District 1 or 12 champion in the PIAA Class 2A first round on Thursday at the Giant Center in Hershey.

Wilson clinches its first spot in the state team tournament since 2009. The Warriors are now 20-4 on the season. They will wrestle Northern Lebanon, the third-place team out of District 3, in the PIAA preliminary round on Monday.
