USC investigating kicker Matt Boermeester for code of conduct issue

USC kicker Matt Boermeester has been suspended amid a university investigation involving a “code of conduct issue,” a spokesman said Tuesday.

“While this student code of conduct issue is being investigated, the student will not be representing the university as a member of its athletic team,” read a statement from the university.

It was first reported by the sports website Deadspin.

Further details regarding discipline were not known. The university statement said, “student disciplinary records and proceedings regarding any matter of student conduct are confidential and protected by law.”

Boermeester would be a senior in the fall.

His 46-yard field as time expired in the Rose Bowl last month lifted the Trojans to a dramatic 52-49 win over Penn State. In his first season as the starting placekicker, Boermeester, a junior transfer from Saddleback College, made 18 of his 25 field-goal attempts and 53 of 54 extra-point attempts.

Michael Brown, who redshirted as a freshman last season, is the only remaining kicker on the roster.

USC begins spring practice next month.
