UTSA officials have confirmed that Coach Frank Wilson's staff has taken its first hit as defensive line coach Eric Henderson has left the Roadrunners for a position with the Los Angeles Chargers of the NFL.

New Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn announced that Henderson will join his staff as an assistant defensive line coach.

The hiring represents a dramatic move for Henderson, 34, who has coached college football for five seasons.

The native of New Orleans began as a defensive assistant at Georgia Military College in 2012 before spending three seasons at Oklahoma as a graduate assistant and a quality control coach on Coach Mike Gundy's staff.

Henderson played college football at Georgia Tech before a two-game career in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2008.

Henderson then joined Wilson's first staff, where he was instrumental in the development of key players like Marcus Davenport and Kevin Strong Jr.

It is undetermined what Wilson will do with the opening. UTSA's spring practice will begin March 6 with the program's Spring Football Fiesta taking place at Farris Stadium on April 15.
