Was Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott detained by police in Columbus?

According to a TMZ report, Ezekiel Elliott was detained for questioning by police in Columbus, Ohio Friday evening but the Dallas Cowboys rookie running back was quick to issue a denial via social media.

From the TMZ report:

Ezekiel Elliott's night was abruptly interrupted by cops after they detained and questioned him ... before letting him go.

An eyewitness tells us the Cowboys star was on his way into The Social bar Friday night in Columbus, OH when suddenly, and for unknown reasons, a cop lit a flashlight on his face and detained him for about 4 minutes ... before letting him go.

On Saturday morning, Elliott took to Twitter saying that he was never in any sort of legal trouble with the police:

I was never "detained" by the police. Nor was I ever questioned or in any type of trouble. [?]

Elliott was previously the subject of an ongoing domestic abuse investigation by the NFL, that commissioner Roger Goodell admitted during Super Bowl week had yet to reach a conclusion.

"I am not not putting any pressure on our investigators," Goodell said on Feb. 1. "We have highly trained and highly skilled investigators that are looking into this. We don't put timetables or pressure on them to make those decisions. We want them to be thorough. We want them to be fair and come to the right conclusion. When they do, they will notify me and we'll take it from there. At this point, there is no timetable."

However, it appears that Friday's incident is completely unrelated and police have yet to issue any statement on the matter.
