PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- It's not quite baseball season, but it already feels like it in South Florida.

Mets pitchers and catchers reported Sunday morning, with many of them working out and playing catch at Tradition Field. The consensus in the clubhouse is that the group is happy to be back together and ready to get started with a new season.  Mets spring training preview

"You saw what we could do last year when the heart of our team was struggling health-wise," reliever Jerry Blevins said. "If we have those guys healthy, who knows what happens. That's the excitement around the clubhouse. It's an overused word. For my vocabulary excitement is the only word I can come up with at the moment. But it's really there, it's palpable. Everybody is anticipating big things.

"If we stay healthy, who knows what we can do."

Blevins and staff ace Noah Syndergaard addressed the media Sunday, talking about pitching depth, chemistry and, of course, excitement about the 2017 season.

"There's an excitement here for a reason," Blevins said. "Everybody is looking forward to what we can do."

The Mets will hold their first official workout Tuesday. Position players will report Friday and they will hold a full-squad workout on Sunday, Feb. 19. They'll play their first spring training game against the Boston Red Sox on Friday, Feb. 24, at JetBlue Park in Ft. Meyers, before opening up the home exhibition slate the following day.
