Hunterdon residents seek to hold politicians accountable

TEWKSBURY TWP. - Over 30 people have created the Tewksbury Area Indivisibles, a group that seeks to become more involved in politics, according to a news release.

The group held its first meeting recently, and has launched a Facebook page.

Dominick DePinto, chair of the Tewksbury Democratic Club, said he was "overwhelmed with the turnout on a miserable winter night and suggested that it reinforced the American ideal of a grassroots democracy," according to the news release.

The group plans to be at the upcoming town hall meeting hosted by U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance (R-7th) on Feb. 22 at Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg. The town hall begins at 7 p.m.

The organization's creation comes at a time when New Jersey residents have begun protesting the recent actions of President Trump at the offices of local Republican Congressional leaders, including at Lance's offices in Flemington.

The Tewksbury Area Indivisibles said it is basing its efforts on, Indivisible, an action guide written by former Democrat Congressional staff members aimed at "resisting the Trump agenda," according to the news release.

"That guide explains how the Tea Party motivated its members and shows how their tools and techniques could be used today to monitor and hold accountable elected officials representing Hunterdon and surrounding counties," according to the release.

Various action committees were organized and members volunteered to design a Facebook page and website, plan local events and coordinate with other organizations, it was stated in the release.
