Manny Pelaez, a local lawyer who is running for the District 8 City Council seat, is facing residency questions that could disqualify him from running for the office.

A socialite who often mingles with the city’s political elite, Pelaez, 42, is a prolific user of social media and posted several photos to Facebook between August and December — when he says he and his family were living with his parents in their Dominion home — that depict their life unfolding in the house they own in Stone Oak in District 9.

Pelaez is considered the heir-apparent for the seat being vacated by Councilman Ron Nirenberg, who is challenging Mayor Ivy Taylor in the upcoming municipal election. He denies the allegation and insists he moved to the Dominion last summer after his father fell and broke his hip, saying he wanted to help care for him.
