SAN ANTONIO — Police are searching for a driver Wednesday who they say caused a rollover crash with a vehicle driven by a mother who was taking her daughter to school.

According to police, officers responded to the hit and run about 7:40 a.m. At the Woodlawn Avenue and Calaveras Street.

The mother, Raquel Rubio, and her daughter, 12-year-old Sophie, were traveling westbound on Woodlawn, when the driver pulled out and hit the rear end of their car, spinning them around and flipping the car over.

"I veered to try to miss him, but he knicked me in the back," Rubio said.

Police said the driver might not have seen them because the sun was in his eyes.

"I heard him say he was sorry," Sophie said. "And some people said he was the one who called 911."

Despite his apparent regret, the driver sped off from the scene. Good Samaritans helped Rubio and her daughter out of the flipped car, Rubio said.

Neither of them were severely injured in the crash, just some minor scrapes and bruises, according to police.

"What a blessing," Rubio said. "[Sophie's] safety was my first and foremost concern."

Police closed down Woodlawn Avenue from Calaveras to Zarzamora while they cleaned up the scene.
