The Paracelsus clinics from Osnabrück are insolvent – and now want to renovate on their own. Most of the employees could stay in the company.

Paracelsus Clinics: Kinikkette reports Bankruptcy

The hospital chain Paracelsus has filed for bankruptcy. The company was "in financial imbalance", management said. In cash registers, a two-digit million amount is missing. The bankruptcy proceedings were opened on Thursday at local Court of Osnabrück. However, clinic continues to run, salaries are paid for time being by employment agency as insolvency money.

In total, according to management, approximately 5,200 employees are affected in 40 facilities at 23 locations. Seven of sites refore make losses. But company should not be settled, but repaired. This was done by a special paragraph of insolvency law, which allows companies to re-position mselves. Two general representatives were appointed to work on restructuring plan in coming months. The company has a good chance of not expecting extensive redundancies, said Sven Elin of Verdi union.

The General Works Council of clinics also supports insolvency proceedings "in its entirety". The medical union of Marburg Confederation criticized that it was irresponsible to put employees in an "emotionally exceptional situation" just before Christmas. Verdi accused clinics of management errors and structural problems.  Thus, too many specialist departments in clinics and investments were missed.

In autumn management asked staff of clinics to dispense with Christmas money. The Verdi Tariff commission rejected this. The workforce had already been abandoned in previous years and necessary investments were still to be avoided. The fact that Christmas money cannot be paid out on time, however, according to new Osnabrücker Zeitung, management had already reported last week.
