Despite diesel scandal last year, Volkswagen achieved a record result and more than doubled its net profit. According to its own data, group 2017 an increase of around 11.4 billion euros. 2016, profit was 5.1 billion euros. Group-wide sales also rose significantly compared to previous year – by 6.2 percent to 230.7 billion euros.

In total, group, which includes brands such as VW, Audi, Škoda, Seat and Porsche, delivered 10.7 million vehicles last year. The "excellent financial result" give Volkswagen "a strong basis" for profound upheavals that industry is facing, said CEO Matthias Müller.

According to Volkswagen, increase in sales is mainly attributable to strong sales figures and good business performance in Financial services Division. 2015, Volkswagen had reported a loss of 1.58 billion euros due to diesel scandal.
