Violence, pornography, data theft: When children are on the net, many parents are worried, but themselves do not have enough network competence. That says a recent study.

Three-quarters of parents in Germany are concerned about surfing behaviour of ir children, which is reflected in current youth Media protection index. Parents are most afraid that ir children will come into contact with strangers, see violence and pornography, or be affected by cyberbullying and ft. For representative study, 805 children and adolescents and one parent were questioned.

Four out of ten parents forbid study to create a profile in social networks for ir children. Almost all (94 percent) see mselves in responsibility of protecting ir children. Only about one in two parents believes that y have enough network competence to do so. The young people are more confident: 69 percent are talking about internet knowledge. In one, children and parents agree: More than 13 years old, young people understand more from net than adults.

Among parents, 81 percent also make Facebook and or social platforms responsible for safe surfing. After all, three quarters of anxious parents also expect schools (74 percent) and politics (72) to make more efforts for a child-safe network. The study was commissioned by voluntary Self-control multimedia service provider (FSM).
