Angela Merkel has often been accused in past of not explaining her policy too little, making herself scarce in public debate. On day one, after failure of Jamaica probes, Merkel is apparently determined not to let this accusation come up again. She appears twice on Monday evening at best time on television to explain to Germans, who are now not getting any government, how to proceed with ir country.

So Merkel explains in ARD focal point that federal president will "arrange furr procedure" and assures, thanks to good German constitution, one is in spite of everything in a "stable phase". She regretted that FDP had left negotiations, although we could have done a lot of good toger: a reduction in solidarity boost, for example, help for families, improvements in care sector.

Above all, however, Merkel makes an announcement on his own merits. Is it ready to take on responsibility in years to come? Well, says Merkel, she promised that in election campaign. Since n, it's been just two months since it's funny if you revoke it now. "So yes," she adds quickly.

    No power vacuum

Last year, Merkel had left a lot of time to explain her new top candidacy. This time, however, it does not want to make a power vacuum. And it also makes it clear: it prefers to elect elections instead of a minority government – even if procedure is not in your hands. First of all, she would have to suggest to federal President as Chancellor that Bundestag could vote for it in a third ballot even without a coalition partner with a relative majority. Then again it would be up to federal president to accept a minority government or to have parliament dissolved and re-elected.

Not all of Union, however, are enthusiastic about prospect of having Merkel at helm of a potential election campaign. Even after bad Bundestag election result, her critics in CDU had demanded that Chancellor should make clear how she would imagine her successor.

On Monday, however, everything remained calm. Neir in morning in party board nor in evening at Bundestag group meeting re was criticism of chancellor, who is at least partly responsible for failure of talks. Instead, North Rhine-Westphalia Minister President Armin LAX reported that Merkel had received broad backing from CDU leadership. Or, less Merkel-friendly participants in conference call confirmed this.

    CDU and CSU come closer

What Union has enforced in probes could well have been seen, it is said. In order to prove this, last stage of negotiations should now be disseminated as far as possible in Union. And while FDP accused Merkel of having contributed to failure of negotiations with a chaotic negotiating style, Union has no bad word about Merkel's alleged lack of ideas and concepts. On contrary: even CDU Finance Secretary Jens Spahn, who had recently made a reputation as a Merkel critic, attested to Merkel's "great negotiating leadership".

CSU chief Horst Seehofer praised Merkel as "highly professional and factually oriented" to his party presidium – as in evening before. In comparison to election campaign, Merkel remained astonishingly steadfast during probing, ors from CSU say. The Parties to Union have even come closer to exploratory talks after ir almost two-year-long bitter dispute over refugee policy. In evening, Seehofer Merkel finally also officially secured support for anor candidacy.

To help Merkel is certainly brusque way in which FDP had canceled talks on Monday night. The Liberals did not even consider it necessary to inform or exploratory participants of ir decision in advance. The declaration of FDP negotiators was pursued in front of television, President of North Rhine-Westphalia reported.
