40% of Spaniards will go on vacation starting tomorrow, August 1, preferring a national destination and spending 625 euros per person, according to data from the National Observatory of Issuing Tourism (ObservaTUR).
This figure is 10 percentage points higher than that of the recent month of July and maintains the predominant trend of the last four years, although it falls two points compared to 2022.
Travelers who will travel on this date will mostly do so accompanied by their partners (76%), their children (33%) and friends (20%). Slightly less than half of the travelers (48%) will enjoy a summer vacation of at least 8 days and 14% will exceed 15 days.
By age, the eighth month of the year is preferred by Spaniards between 35 and 49 years of age (48%) and somewhat more by women than by men (seven points above). For those over 65, both the month of June and July are higher than August.
Regarding the means of transport, they will mostly use their own vehicle (57%) and, secondly, the plane, a means that will register a rise of 10 percentage points compared to 2022. This evolution allows us to verify, in general, the return to pre-pandemic values.
According to ObservaTUR, the favorite accommodation of 49% of Spaniards in August will be the hotel, followed by the tourist apartment and the second residence. Other lodgings are located at a distance, such as hostels, camping and rural houses.
Regarding the destination, 67% of Spanish tourists will opt for a national one and 33% for an international one. At the national level, the two main destinations will be the Mediterranean Coast (18%) and Andalusia (18%), followed by the Cantabrian Sea (13%).
The detail of the destinations abroad shows that the cultural routes through Europe (8%) and the visit to the most recognized capitals of this continent (8%) are the two alternatives that enjoy the greatest interest outside of Spain for Spaniards.
Among those whose destination has been decided, and although it falls two points compared to 2022, sun and beach trips will be the prominent protagonists. Cultural trips will grow (5 percentage points) and, to a lesser extent, relaxation and wellness tourism (2).
The expected average cost per person is 625 euros and continues with the upward trend that began in 2022, growing by 15 euros/person, ObservaTUR has highlighted.
However, this increase is notably less than that registered between 2021 and 2022 and remains below pre-pandemic levels.
The distribution of spending among the different elements of the trip is practically identical to that observed in 2022. Accommodation (34%), restaurant expenses (25%) and transport (20%) are included in the first three places here.
