A vehicle caught fire Thursday morning on Highway 20 before the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel on the South Shore of Montreal, causing traffic jams on the highway.

A vehicle caught fire Thursday morning on Highway 20 before the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel on the South Shore of Montreal, causing traffic jams on the highway.

The vehicle was traveling on the A-20 westbound when, around 5 a.m., it caught fire at kilometer 89, near Route 132.

However, no collision was caused and the driver of the vehicle was not injured, said a spokeswoman for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

Longueuil firefighters were dispatched to the scene to put out the fire, which was quickly brought under control.

The Ministry of Transport clarified on Twitter that the A-20 westbound has been partially closed at the rate of 1 lane out of 2.
